Default Free FTP Client

After having used SmartFTP for god knows how long, it seems it is no longer free.

Any suggestions for alternatives?

If you use Firefox, FireFTP is pretty decent.

WinSCP is the one I normally use. It's primarily for SCP, but does FTP just fine.

SmartFTP hasn't been free for years. Maybe they've got a bit 'smarter' about their nag screens however (in the past I just reinstalled when I got nagged, but I've not used SmartFTP for ages - I tend to use Linux command-line tools mostly now).

Well, the last version I used was 2.0 which said it was 'Free for personal use'

Now the screen says they no longer do any free version and the download is a 30day trial.

I'll have a look at some of those others.

DOS prompt is a bad idea - it tends to hang lots for me. That's mainly because Microsoft took the braindead decision to provide only the bare minimum functionality (e.g. no passive FTP). Linux (or even Cygwin on Windows) are of course fair game.

I just use FireFTP because it's built straight into Firefox. I used it to replace Smart FTP about 18 months ago.
