I know you said a non Apple OS Mark, but you didn't mention the hardware - I just had to suggest it! Built like a brick privvy, attractive looking and with a long-life battery

I've got a Dell Vostro 1700 with the 9 cell *85Wh* battery and I can get 3 hours from the battery fairly easily.
2.4ghz C2D 256mb 8600GT 1920x1200 screen 1 7200rpm 160gb drive 1 5400rpm 400gb drive *I think* DVD drive N wireless Bluetooth Managed to get 3 hours while watching films and browsing too which I was pretty happy with.
