Default O2 Mobile Broadband USB Dongle (PAYG)

I've read a few reports that these are tied to a single laptop. Is that true? Is it easy to 'untie' them?

I have two laptops and which one I take depends on what I plan to use it for.

OK, now I've done the RTFM thing, I understand what the problem was. You can only have one laptop at a time registered to use the included wi-fi access. It's fairly easy to change it though (providing you're not in a hurry). This doesn't affect mobile broadband itself.
