Default Gaming controllers on macs?

Just scratching my head here a bit. Do gamepads or sticks need drivers to work in mac osx and if so how do you know what is mac friendly?

Reason I ask is I am considering this:-

Now is there something like this that would be mac friendly? Just wondering really and thought I would see if anyone here has done something similar before scavenging the net.

I can't test it for you unfortunately - wireless controllers don't work (even with the play and charge cable).

I also don't know if that can be used for anything but messing about.
