1920s costume help?!

Hello all!

For New Years Eve Jingo and I have been invited to a meal at the Cafe on the Quay in Flushing, Cornwall...and after ohh-ing and ahh-ing at the lovely menu...we suddenly noticed it was a 1920s dress code

and no one had thought to mention it!

Luckily we have quite a while to prepare, but does anyone have any good ideas of what to wear??

Help gratefully appreciated! xx

Did my whole birthday in 1920s style

It depends a bit whether you're thinking American or British style, but the girls looked much the same I think - "flappers", short hair, water/marcell waves, cloche hats, dresses with fringing, feathers, stockings, etc!

The British ones may have been a little more refined, lower hemlines, more tweed etc... Look for footage from the House of Eliott, maybe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCdvjxpMYfs (it's a bit 'BBC' rather than glam though, bless it)

The men can either go a bit gangster-style (basically a normal suit but be sure to slick/water the hair and include a trilby or fedora - it was prohibition time over there - think 'Chicago'), or the boater style (straw boater, blazer, light coloured loose trousers), or even colonial type explorer (pith helmet, khakis).

As an aside, I looked into lots of this because of my birthday, it's close to my interests anyway as swing dancing really kicked off in the 30s out of Charleston (20s), jazz and African dances.... The flappers were REALLY interesting. The first generation of women to go nuts and bob their hair, enjoy jazz, and nightclubs, and alcohol, and misbehave, and be their own woman. Really interesting stuff.

Twas a bargain! I also bought some long pearls, and am planning on getting one of those feather headband things and some long black gloves! God Im gonna look stunning hahaha!!
