Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

Just watched The Dark Knight, it having passed me by in the cinema, and it seemed a good place to start the IMDB 250.
I thought it was an excellent movie, one of the best comic adaptions so far. Heath Ledger was superb, as has been said everywhere, and Aaron Eckhart was excellent as well. Didn't think much of Christian Bale, although that could have been just a product of having to look moody and grunt occasionally. Overall it was pacy, dazzling, and extremely exciting. That said, number 9 on the IMDB list? Really? It was good, a rare mix of blockbuster and depth, but it didn't blow me away completely. It seemed unnecessarily long and occasionally self-involved. I can accept a few leaps of faith in plot with a movie like this, but it seemed to want to both be taken seriously and yet contain completely unbelievable scenarios.
Overall, though, I'd give it 8/10 - one of the better movies I've seen recently and very enjoyable, but by no means earth-shattering.

Excluding The Prestige and The Machinist (both absolutely brilliant films) I think Christian Bale's main form of acting involves being moody and grunting
Shame as he is amazing in both of the above films, but I think he's got a bit type casted when it comes to doing the moody, grunty thing lately.

Edit: Forgot American Psycho. He does the moody thing but no grunting

Mumbles Bale as he's come to be known in the flat. Even did the mumble voice in Terminator Salvation... exactly the same as his Batman voice...

Really don't like him, but the Prestige was a great film.

It was everything I wasn't expecting and I fell in love with it on my first viewing; there's a lot to Mr Burton's films however, and so I intend on watching it again to enjoy his brilliance without focussing entirely upon the narrative

The Final Destination (FD 4).

I enjoyed the first three, as silly as they are, but this felt like it was rushed.
A let down.

The Dark Knight

Starring
  • Christian Bale
  • Heath Ledger
  • Aaron Eckhart
  • Michael Caine
Comic book based film

8/10 Most of you have probably already seen this and as I'm late to the party I'll keep it short, very entertaining for the most part and deserves its place as one of the best films based on a comic book but it is not the greatest film of all time.

12 Angry Men

Starring
  • Martin Balsam
  • John Feidler
  • Lee J. Cobb
  • E.G. Marshall
Suspense film

9/10 This on the other hand is one of the best films of all time, the only thing that prevents me from giving it full marks is natural caution that there may be something even better. Truly a character study par excellence and irrespective of the fact that it barely moves outside one room for the whole running time is utterly enthralling. The fact that it manages it all within 92 minutes is also something for which I love it. If you've never watched it do yourself a favour and watch it now, it only costs a few pounds delivered so there really is no excuse.

It has been pointed out before that I've got a "Casablanca/12 Angry Men ideological supremacist mission" though so perhaps I'm not entirely unbiased about this.
