How To Train Your Dragon (3D)
Didn't know what to expect. Would have to say 10/10. Very unusual for me to give top marks, but I can't see how it could have been any better. Clash of the Titans 7/10. Decent enough, but no real spark. Mostly British cast though and the acting is very good. Sam W is a good Persius too, and the nod to the 70's 'God' outfits/look was nicely done. Didn't see it in 3d though as friend can't see 3D. Will see it in 3D next week probably.

Stardust
Had it recorded for a while. Have to say it's my kind of film, interesting cast (I heart Clare Danes), cute theme, funny and sad bits. Probs not your cup of tea if you don't like fantasy films 8/10 Kalifornia Watched it as it happened to be on last night, fairly good if a little dated now. 7/10

Predator
"Bunch of slack-jawed faggots around here. This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me" Cheesy, bad dialogue, awesome alien. +Arnie 8/10, always good for a laugh.

Surrogates
Disappointed. Far too much in common with iRobot (they even had the stones to cast the same actor as the father of all robots/surrogates). A waste of Bruce Willis IMO and his lacklustre performance is well below his abilities. It wasn't a bad film, it just wasn't a very good film either. 6.5/10. |

The Departed
Classic Scorcese returns in a very pacy, well written and reassuringly violent 'US crime' number that somehow slipped past me in 2006. The arguably-overused flickering between shaky hand held perspectives and rapid-fire shot sequences was screaming 'overedited' at my analytical brain, yet about 1/2 way through I caught on at the simply genius matchmaking between the camera work and character emotives! I'm sure the plot holes could be explored and critiqued over a pint or two, but the film's enormous cast, peppering of subtle humour and the sheer pace at which it zooms along leaves me not particularly bothered! I am entertained says the brain! For it's genre, 9/10

Remember Me
Not my typical type of film, but I went not expecting to be enthralled. Turned out to be very good, and I now actually quite like Robert Pattinson as an actor (Didnt realise he played Cedric in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" till recently too!). Hadnt heard much about the film before hand, so the plot was totally unknown, and, well, I was surprised. Bit of a tear jerker with some tense dramatic moments to be honest; makes you realise you have to appreciate and make the most of what you have, whilst you have it. In summary: Good acting Good cast Original plot line Kinda clever in places Food For Thought film 8/10, which is high for me considering its not my usual taste! Edit: Look out for young actress "Ruby Jerins", I reckon she's gonna be huge in the future. Last edited by Pickers; 18-04-2010 at 13:00. |

Clash of the Titans:
Okay. I didn't read any reviews about this before going to see it and had really cool expectations! I remember watching the original as a kid and loving it so was all like "YEEEEEEEEH!!" over it.... but sadly it was a big pile of disappointing poopness. Characters: Bland, poorly built on, wooden. The witches REALLY annoyed me. And their eye. It was... like car crash TV. The actors truly flumped up all of that scene IMO. Script: Absolutely diabolical Acting: Because of the script I think any actor would have struggled making it look good. All the same, it was really theatre groupish. Poorly directed speech - very "you say something and then pause... and then I'll say something". URGH! Lack of facial muscles in some of the band that went out too - that's a HUGE MOFO (poorly CGI'd) SCORPION in front of you!! Try and look remotely scared, not just like your Mothers just told you off for not eating your greens! MORONS! CGI: Not great - it's all a bit tacky and looked super dooper green screened. I saw it in 2D... may be it would have been better in 3D? I don't think so though. Costume Design: Some lovely ideas but it looked STUPENDOUSLY tacky. The gold looked plastic and the costumes were just all too... rigid. In films set in eras like this I LOVE costume designs... this just looked all to spanking new with a bit of make up on it if it needed to be dirty. Make up: As costume design, was super amateuresque at times. People who had been in battle suddenly emerged with poorly smeared black faces. It all felt a bit like a bad halloween attempt. Story Line: Well it had so much potential... and FAILED! Epically in my mind. The whole presentation of it was dull, uninventive and disappointing. Really didn't like it. I tried to like it so much but it just was pants. I wasn't aware it had poor reviews either and was dead excited. Gutted. I was so bored half way through I just curled up in a ball in the cinema and went to sleep. To me... it was like opening a lovely Lindt chocolate and *KNOWING* it can be nothing but voluptuous meltingly gorgeous, divine and perfect... only to bite into it and realise it's a turd. 2/10 Oh and STUPID ENDING! THat's not what happened in the original you big bunch of wussy-americanised-muppets! Last edited by Pheebs; 19-04-2010 at 18:04. |
