Well, there is the quite simple element that it would lack the polish the current version has. I think the decision is more down to Apple wanting a minimum quality level than anything else.

I'd like get get a new iPhone, purely because I like shiny new things - there's nothing wrong with my 3GS.
There's no way I'll stay with O2 though and I don't want a new iPhone enough to buy myself out of the remaining 6 months of my O2 contract so I'll either upgrade around Christmas time when I switch back to Vodafone or go PAYG on Vodafone and keep the 3GS for another year. |

It's the best they've made yet. And i'm impressed, the hardware seems nice, again nothing special, but nice looking etc... I'm almost interested It's just some big problems still exist, one thing i think about now is bluetooth transfer anywhere. I guess i could jailbreak. Then theres the price, i just can't justify it when i'm hoping the android lot will get cheaper and/or even more polished hardware (HTC produce some nice stuff now i just hope they have to raise the bar).

Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped writing about other things and made this your signature, yours could be like mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're on Boat Drinks, reading the signature your signature could be like. I'm on a computer. |

It's all based on personal experience so YMMV, but for me I find their 3G coverage shambolic, data throughputs crap, voice coverage patchy, customer service unhelpful, 'frequent' brief outages of data service and far too often for my liking all my incoming calls will go to voicemail for no reason that O2 can find.

O2's 3G network is significantly overstretched. That's the price everyone has paid for O2 giving iPhone almost 'free reign' on their network and then not planning for capacity to match.
Not sure about Vodafone. They always used to be expensive (IMHO) for what they offered - but did all of that end up with the shareholders, or did some of it get reinvested. One would at least assume that living in their 'home town' ought to be an advantage. |

Right behind the Apple HQ, on the AT&T network. Can't think why.
