Quantum Of Solace
Starring
3/10 I thought I'd watch this to see if it was as bad as I first remembered it to be, it is and it isn't. It's not a terrible film on its own merits (i.e. as a generic action film) but it's a terrible Bond film - the title is nonsense, the title song is crap (I don't particularly like the White Stripes anyway though) and it felt like almost any action hero could have been substituted with no difference. However the biggest problem is it broke a cardinal rule of Bond films - they should all be self-contained films with no storyline passing directly through, characters can continue by all means but the thread of the story never does. If it wasn't for the Bond name it's a solid enough film and probably gets a 6/10 but as it does try to trade off the name it scores as above because it's just not a Bond. Inception Starring
8/10 I'm not sure if it was all the press around this and that I already knew some of the storyline but I watched it and enjoyed it without being overly moved by the whole thing. It was nice, it was kinda clever and well filmed but I found I'd guessed a good number of the 'twists' (or maybe I'd been told them) well before their denouement. I'd also say it was a bit too long, there's very few films that I think merit more than 2 hours of my life and good though this was I'm not convinced it was one of them.

9
Recorded this on Sky+ for Josh to watch and as it's 12 rated I thought I'd better review it first. I really loved the look of this film, not quite steampunk, more stitchpunk! The film follows a sack-doll "9" in his quest to find what the strange amulet his creator has left with him before his sad demise in the human/machine war. 8/10

I thought '9' was beautiful, but terribly sad. Made my eyes water.

If I wasn't a big rufty-tufty macho man, I think I may have leaked about the eyes.

The Kings Speech
Yeah, not bad actually. Quite an interesting moment in time as well, with the abdication of Edward VIII and so on. Firth and Rush are excellent together, and there's a good supporting cast with Timothy Spall, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham Carter. The good thing for me was that, while this film is mainly about serious topics, such as duty, family relationships, honour and so on, there are plenty of genuinely laugh out loud moments to break up the serious tone. Should it win an Oscar or two? Sure, why not? It's a better film than a lot of stuff out there, with some serious acting and a great script. I'd certainly recommend a watch, even to those who think "Meh, film about some bloke with a stammer... sounds boring!". I thought that, and was pleasantly surprised. 9/10 |

Push
7/10 Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning et. al. There are people with super powers in the world, and government agencies all around the world who are trying to use them to create super armies. In the US's case it's called Division. Kira (Camille Belle), a powerful psychic capable of pushing thoughts onto others, is on the run from Division after having been injected by their experimental drug (that usually kills super-powered people when it's supposed to enhance them). Nick (Chris) is her boyfriend, a Mover (telekinetic), and it's up to him to protect the girl and Cassie (Dakota), a Watcher (precognition). I was expecting super-hero fluff, with thin plots. The trailer for it really does a crap job of showing the film for what it really is, something a lot deeper. It's not just a bunch of heroes and villains duking it out with their superpowers, and it's not just an action film. But it is both too. It's hard to talk about the film without spoiling it, but in my opinion it's well worth a watch.

Watched this again the other night, still think the same, maybe even deserving 10/10, if you haven;t watched it yet, go go go.
Law Abiding Citizen An everyday guy decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family's killers free. His target: The district attorney who orchestrated the deal. 9/10 OMG this is stunning. a Bit gruesome and absolutely crazy. Pure awesomeness.

Black Swan.
Ballet dancer descending into total obsession. Interesting but wouldn't bother watching it again. Got goosebumps when she dances the black swan at the end but a bit too gory in places for me.
