Default Android streaming mp3 over LAN

I can't seem to find a half decent answer to this one. I have a media server which hosts all my mp3s. I am looking at getting an Android tablet for part of a little project. I can stream internet radio easily via wi-fi with existing apps.

The problem seems to come when you want to stream mp3. I have seen some solutions that are meant for phones where it streams through the net (and their servers) to wi-fi.

The other way is to get a 500gb USB drive and put it all on there. However I can't find an answer to if any players would read directly from there. It always refers to sync (which is useless if you have 4gb sd card).

Anyone done something similar or any ideas?

Have a look for a UPnP player for Android, there should be plenty to choose from. I assume the media server will already have a UPnP media server up and running.

I'm using PlugPlayer on my iPhone (I believe there is an Android version of that actually) to stream from a machine upstairs over WiFi that is running PS3 Media Server (don't let the name fool you, it'll support any DLNA client) and it works brilliantly. It's a bit sluggish when I browse the music but there's a lot of music there, mostly with album art and the box that runs it isn't the most powerful thing in the world.

Aha, something like that looks ideal. Thanks
