You can put XBMC on the Pi, but it'll be a Linux variant and so won't support XBMCFlicks (which doesn't support netflix outside the US anyway).

Bit of a shame that Lovefilm/Netflix aren't allowing licencing for Linux systems.

Doesn't look like it at the moment

Looks like the DRM issue is causing the lack of Netflix/Lovefilm...

One that has good Linux kernel support (i.e. doesn't require hacked Windows drivers/firmware). It's all down to the chipset. Last time I researched this (a few years ago now), Edimax stuff was a good choice.

I haven't even got my Pi out of its box, so can't tell you if that theory actually works!

I'd agree with what Mark said

Although, to be honest I'm not clued up on wifi as I have my Pi hardwired!

I bought one because I thought it was cool, got a box and a decent speed memory card. Booted it, faffed around with it for ten minutes then turned it off and sold it. Waste of time.

Mine's been running as our media centre since I got it, in May.

Having an idea of what I wanted to do with it (as well as it being cool!) meant that it actually got used for something.

Now, due to a broken DVD player and Linux limitations, it might get replaced by something else. But, I'll most probably set it up to run headless as a NAS, or something

I would certainly only use one as a media box

what I would love is something that I could just turn on, it boots up and then I have access to it via the network so I can dump stuff on it from the laptop and watch it via the TV (which can read from media servers on a network)

I would need to be able to plug in my pair of 2Tb drives somehow, and you already say you've plugged an HDMI cable into it
Have you considered a jailbroken Apple TV?
