link exchanges anyone?
hey, i'm trying to build up my google page rank for my new site, and was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to link to me? just a small text link would be great...something like:
Code:
<a href="http://www.sameagain.net">Jasper Tandy</a> |

I have to be a bit careful about doing that sort of thing as I'm helping someone with an SEO contest (for charity). Sorry, and a shame, as I have a Google PR7 site.

ooh, you git! how did you manage to get a PR7? if you've got any tips, other than extensive linkbuilding, they'd be most-welcome

Just got it linked on some very popular sites. It's been around a few years though so has had time to 'mature'.

You know whats odd is that if you google for "Pete Carr" or "Peter Carr" I'm either first or second. I've never asked anyone to link to me and I haven't used any tricks on my sites. I don't have my name embedded all over in the site either. It is part of the URL and I think that's the most important part. I got my HDR Guide onto the first page of google for "hdr guide" and "hdr tutorial" by the url containing "hdr-guide" and the header tags saying tutorial. In my mind the best way of doing SEO is to simply use informative URL's and properly designed sites using XHTML + CSS. Aside from that I've never used any magic. So for me the biggest part of my job is getting people to remember my name, thats it. The rest is available via google. My business card says "Pete Carr" with "petecarr.net" and mail to petecarr.net

So how does one check the ranking of a site?

you can use the google toolbar, but i use the SEO Book plugin for firefox, as it tells you the Google and Alexa rank for every page you visit.
