ARGGGGH bloody pop mail
Can someone please suggest WHY my gmail pop mail won't send any messages from Outlook? I've made sure that absolutely everything is correct. I've even run the gmail troubleshooter tool and it reckons that all is find and dandy.
Every time I try to send a message though, I get "Send test e-mail message: Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-mail Address field". Really don't understand this because it's all entered correctly. I've even deleted the account and entered it all over again following the instructions to the letter and checked it with the gmail troubleshooter. Please don't tell me this is because NTL doesn't like you sending e-mail addresses from another account I would happily use my NTL e-mail, but the muppets spelt my bloody name wrong when I registered and despite having tried to change it both online and over the phone it's STILL wrong. After 20 minutes of titting around, the idiot at the call centre assured me that it had all been sorted and my email would be active within 24 hours. I gave it 2 days and it's STILL wrong. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!! Why is it so bloody hard to get an email address right? HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!

No, I'm trying to use gmails smtp at the moment so I can actually send from gmail rather than having to send through NTL.

IT WORKS!!! It hadn't transitioned all the pop/smtp details from Outlook properly so I've changed it manually and now it's all good. It's also a damn sight faster than Outlook. Thanks a lot, it's brilliant

Thunderbird's pretty nice I used to use it for my NTL and yahoo account but stopped for some reason and switched to Outlook.
Not too sure why really considering I don't use most of Outlook's features, habit I guess. Then again, this weekend I've been using webmail for everything and in a way it's a lot more convenient for me than a seperate program.

fwiw, it sounds like an authentication issue for outbound emails Kate. Did you tick that box which says 'My outgoing server requires authentication'?
Not sure if that's the same in Outlook Express though.

I concur with Daz - that's exactly what it sounds like to me.

She used to have several different domains going to it, including the one that it now won't retrieve mail from and what is strange is that the settings that work perfectly well on one of her machines, are absolutely identical on the other machine she's trying to use but just will not work. We're all pretty stumped by it tbh.

I have Outlook going to four domains, so it's not impossible to do the same with Outlook. Agree on the bit about it being slower though (although due to having to use Outlook with work, I've never tried Thunderbird).
