I went back to an easy track and got bored. After playing those face melters on medium there's nothing to do on easy.

I just finished Hanger 18 on expert (took about 5 hours
 ), unlocked free bird. I didn't find it that hard even on hard, but on expert the big solo really takes some doing. Going to have expert finished by tomorrow though

Actually I think the Medium to Hard step in difficulty is much greater than Hard to Expert, for most songs at least. Towards the end of the game though Expert is much more difficult than Hard.
It's not too hard to survive through most songs, if you nail the rhythm part that repeats and save up star juice for the nasty bits. That helped me through Hanger 18! Got to say, I have a lot of work to do though still, in the overall rankings (just for campaign) I'm only in the top 20000. Should bring that down pretty quickly when I have all the songs done on expert

Well I play the real guitar so it gives me an unfair advantage really. On that note, I'm certain it's improving my actual guitar playing - at least my finger dexterity to some degree.
Tomorrow I'm going to have to add everyone to my friends list so I can check out the leaderboard
