£90,000 in West country vs £100,000 in London. I know which one I pick.

No it isn't. Every job I've done has had a probationary period - usually 3-6 months.
I thought that too - maybe they mean in the public sector.

And yes, given the choice, it's a no-brainer on the salary, assuming she was earning that (it was denied, which is usually a good indication).
