... but does anyone know off-hand how to change the start-up and shutdown screens in XP? In 98 it was just a simple matter of changing a file, but I know in XP it's a little more difficult. But every search I do comes up with something completely irrelevant.

Detailed instructions please, or a link to a guide would be perfect.

Never tried it, but I'd certainly recommend doing the boot.ini change recommended there to avoid killing your OS if you get it wrong.
