Nominative Determinism

The New Scientist started the jokey study of nominative determinism whereby peoples names determined their future careers.

I've not come across any until fairly recently, in the Thames Valley Police DVU (Domestic Violence Unit), we have a DC Beaton, one of the Armed Response crew is a PC Kille and one of the Burglary squad is about to become a DC Steele.

A nurse friend of mine's surname is "Ward" which I quite enjoyed reminding her of (when not distracted by the uniform...).

Someone at school became a pilot and his surname was Airherst or Airhurst can't remember the spelling.

One of my school teacher's surnames was Hoare - the fun he could have had with that!!!

I remember first reading it in New Scientist years ago, quite a comical article if I remember and to a degree appeared to ring true!
