Basically I have:

250gb boot drive
320 storage
320 storage

The two storage drives a virtually full with high res content. Now...do I spend ages burning it on to dual layer disks OR buy two 500-750gb drives and put the two 320s into caddies...

I'm just not sure, help!

Storage is cheap, buy the hard drives. If you're really serious about keeping that sort of data over a long period then consider investing in some sort of NAS/SAN box. Couple of TB in an external array would see you sorted for a while.

[edit]Not going so uber I think WD do a 1.5TB firewire unit.

I would buy new disks, plug the old ones into spare SATA ports, copy then disconnect.

Don't try and make your own linux NAS box is my advice, seemed a good idea on paper at the time, im still losing hair over it

I have a 250gb NAS box...i tend to stick bits of SD stuff on there + e-mail/browser backups.

Any more opinions? I don't know what to do...I want to keep the TV shows - but I know I probably won't watch them again.

Maplin currently have a USB2/LAN connectable PATA hdd caddies for £30.

They're pretty damn good as well. Got 2 running on the network at the moment - each with 200gb disks in. Just using them temporailly until the disks are emptied.

If most of it is TV Series, burn them off to disk. If HDTV rips, it's about 3 DVD-R's per series of 24 shows. It's what I've done with OCC and Studio 60, A1GP, F1 etc....

You'd be surprised how quick you can clear out some space doing that.

Can't use USB and LAN at the same time sadly, but it just gets picked up as a shared drive in Windows and I've now got it set up as a mapped drive.
