What used to happen when I was a kid was that anything that didn't get eaten was served up for the next meal and the process repeated until it was eaten.

Garden peas for breakfast is not nice - especially when you genuinely don't like the taste of them

Soon learned to eat everything on my plate though.

Edit: Hope the stew turns out all right
