AV amp - CD player

I've spent the day helping a friend sort out his bar trying to get it sorted for a relaunch. We ripped out the old speakers (bookshelf size) that were attached to the old jukebox and attached them to the room upstairs (going to be to VIP area

I've donated my old amp which is a Martenez 4400 which is designed as an AV amp really. Although it all works, we found that when you've got a CD player attached, it sounds really bassy. I've altered all the config for 2 stereo speakers and no sub and tweaked the EQ a bit. Although it's better, it's still not perfect.

I'm wondering if essentially this isn't going to be fixable just by tweaking things and whether CD players into AV amps is just a bad idea. The room is totally empty at the moment and has a fair bit of reverb.
