Default AV amp - CD player

I've spent the day helping a friend sort out his bar trying to get it sorted for a relaunch. We ripped out the old speakers (bookshelf size) that were attached to the old jukebox and attached them to the room upstairs (going to be to VIP area )

I've donated my old amp which is a Martenez 4400 which is designed as an AV amp really. Although it all works, we found that when you've got a CD player attached, it sounds really bassy. I've altered all the config for 2 stereo speakers and no sub and tweaked the EQ a bit. Although it's better, it's still not perfect.

I'm wondering if essentially this isn't going to be fixable just by tweaking things and whether CD players into AV amps is just a bad idea. The room is totally empty at the moment and has a fair bit of reverb.
