I can burn the same calories in 20 minutes doing HIIT as I could running a constant rate for about 40-45. Doing those 20 minutes six times a week has caused fat to just drop off my body in the past six months or so.

When I said "eat loads of chocolate" I didn't quite mean that much!

Or Did you mean 10 little squares? In which case 2.5 miles for 10 little squares of chocolate?!?!
Yep 10 little squares are 220 calories

It's amazing how calories quickly add up, and how many are crammed into certain foods. I had four squares of dark chocolate the other day at 30kcal a square. There were less calories (80-90) in an entire pack of fruit salad that I brought into work the other day and struggled to finish (so much mango *drool*).

I'm frankly amazed that the maintenance levels for males and females are 2500kcal and 2000kcal a day respectively. If I ate 2500kcal in a day I'd put on weight, no doubt. I'd say 2000 was maybe even too much for me. Although I don't really count calories, I've become very much aware that the usual things I used to do (grabbing a handful of cereal out the box, or a handful of peanuts) could easily have pushed me from a daily deficit of calories to an excess, ultimately putting weight on over time.

The biggest eye-opener for me was realising that busting my ass on the treadmill for 20 minutes only burns 300kcal. If I've been snacking on apples all day then I'll have done some good, but if I've grabbed a Boost from the vending machine at work I've only cancelled out the damage I've done.
