For a second when I read the thread title I was like "Spinning... like... what they did in ye olden days to get cotton... what's this doing in the sports thread!"

*doh*

Spinning classes + Pheebs = Looks-like-she's-consumed-half-a-barrel-of-cider

And yes bottoms = disaster zones when spinning!

Glad you enjoy it though Roberta!

When I went to the gym with my boss - she wore special cycling shorts with re-inforced bum padding, but she cycled in everyday so she had them already.

That sounds like hell to me!!! Lol!! Maybe I should join the gym soon and go on the bike LOADS before I do spinning classes

I may just stuff a cushion down my shorts then remake Sir Mixalot's Baby Got Back video.

If anyone wants to try spin, try at least 4 or 5 classes with different instructors, as they all do it differently, some can be really boring, others exciting, depending on what music the instructor uses.

My current favorite is sunday morning spin, the guy uses only 80's tracks, and its a great atmosphere, one i goto on a friday night sometimes is horrific, all hard dance beats and very gruelling with no personality, so you have to find the right class to suit you. Its amazing how much easier a class is with music you enjoy.

I've never done a spinning class but the exercise bikes at every gym I've been to have saddles that are really wide (probably about 10-12" wide) which I'm assuming are intended to be more comfortable for women. They just ruin me for anything more than 10 minutes worth of cycling - I once made the unfortunate mistake of cycling about twice around Stanley Park on a bike with a womans saddle and literally couldn't walk properly for two days and that is even with me standing up out of the saddle for most of the time because it was so uncomfortable.

SDG Bel Air is where it is at in terms of bike saddles, they don't look that comfortable but paradoxically the firmness of the saddle really helps after the first couple of rides.

After teaching a 1 hour class my bottom was comfortable! Hurrah! I think the 5 hour exam was just a little excessive! My poor bum took about 5 days to stop hurting!
