Digital Photo Frames

Anyone got any experience with digital photo frames? I'm looking to get one for my Dad's 60th next Thursday. Initially I was tempted by a wifi one but they seem a bit pricey and not very good. It doesn't look like anyones produced a really nice wifi frame. It would be great though. Set it to subscribe to my photoblog's RSS feed and off it goes. So I think I'm just looking for a nice one, say 7x5. Load it with photos and show him how to use a card reader. Should be ok. Sony ones look very nice but I'm guessing they have Sony added tax. Doubt I could get one from Play in time. Any tips?

You get what you pay for is the only tip I can offer. The cheap ones tend to be rather limited in functionality (copying images onto the internal memory can be painful, as can attempting to find a specific image if you have many, for examples), but if basic is OK then they do the job.

Not a huge fan of cheap. Why don't Apple do their own

I'm willing to pay for a decent model if it looks worth it. Ideally removable card, decent screen. No point in buying something naff.

Almost all of them do removable card. SD card slots are cheap as chips. Good screen on the other hand is another matter, and hard to judge without actually seeing them working.

The one I have is pants. I dont know how much it was cos it was a present, but Ive never really used it. It gives my pics a horrible green tinge, and the card sticks right out.

Sorry that wasnt much help was it? Mark is right, you get what you pay for, I am guessing this one was about £20

I've got a cheap one that plays DivX and avi files, so it gets used as a portable cinema at work.

The pic isn't bad but I've yet to use it as a photoframe...

Sony seem to do one for around £80. 7'', decent resolution, accepts any major card and has a remote. Just they have their usual marketing bs. True to life detail from a 1mp screen...

We sell these in work.

AVOID AVOID AVOID the cheap ones - they CANNOT handle huge resolutions or portrait photos if they come up in the rotation. I took a few of my favourite shots into work to put on the displays and they looked so crap that I took them off again so people didn't think (realise?!) that it was my photos looking poop!

I have never seen the Sony ones or the really really high end ones but all of the ones I have seen for less than £50 have been terrible.
