Heh, you'd all have a hemorrhage if you saw where my son went to primary at.

Both Pennington Ave and State Route 61 are 55mph zones. Between the school and Pennington Ave is the playground for Kindergarten through grade 3. No kids have ever been hit there. Why? Because they are told, "It's a road. It's for cars, not people. Stay out of the road if you want to live." Guess what? They stay out of the road.

Nobody is disputing that 20mph past a school while it's open is too slow, what Vix was trying to say was when you have to do 20mph or less in a 30mph zone away from schools as kids blindly walk onto the road without looking both ways first to make sure it is clear.

Granted when I was a kid I used to think I was invincible and I bet most kids think that still. Hell, last night I was driving home through the estate I live and the car in front indicated to turn left down a street and 3 kids just carried on walking without looking, until the driver beeped his horn and they suddenly realised they could have gotten run over. That's the point Vix and myself are on about.

If I was more eloquent I could put my point across better than I currently am

OR you get the ones that if you beep at them they give you a dirty look, flip you off, or worse. Hence why I loved driving my old truck in Minnesota. Not too many would argue with the view of the front end on that thing...

Hehe. I love those straight roads you have over there too

I'm not very good at getting my point across at the mo, but I'm not some kind of boy racer speed freak (well I am just not on public roads!) and I didn't mean my posts to look that way. Sorry if I have offended or upset anyone by my posts.

We'll agree to disagree then. I'm not defending kids who don't have any road sense, more fool their parents. But its a fact that lots of kids don't have road sense and I dont necessarily think it's a recent thing either, kids have been getting run over as long as there's been cars around. Kids are kids, they're unpredictable and impulsive. It's a shame that people resent having to take care.

Sidestepping the whole speeding debate for a second. This sounds like a really good idea for dealing with some speeding as it will give people a bit of a shock and possibly get them to think about their actions a little more. Obviously it won't be suitable for everyone and not all would gain an insight from it but for those who have the capacity to be affected it seems like it could be more effective than a simple fine and points.

I'm not quite sure what the sweeping generalisation is?

As to breaking the law, I sure as hell don't speed past schools on the basis that if children aren't in the road, they aren't going to get hit.

Have I ever broken the law? Yes, of course I have; I tend not to think that it is my God given right to break those laws with which I happen not to agree, simply on the basis that they aren't convenient for me.

As it happens, I tend to be pretty fussy about not speeding and I have absolutely no sympathy for those who knowingly do so on the assumption that they will get away with it. As far as I am concerned, they are no more deserving of sympathy than people who drink and drive and get caught.

It's not that I resent having to take care, it's that I resent kids not having any sense to take care near roads or when crossing them.

I don't know what it is like nowadays, but when I was in school we were taught the green cross code and had it drilled into us that crossing a road without looking and making sure it is clear could get you run over.

Good god, nobody is talking about speeding past schools. How many times does it have to be said? Or do you just not read things fully?

Regarding speeding in general, so you think that people who drive at 85mph on an empty motorway in perfect conditions are deserving of punishment when it is perfectly safe in a modern car that is well serviced?

Kids do get taught at primary, or they do in the schools around here.

The minority causing the majority to be labeled.
