Memory foam toppers are OK for heat retention - it's the solid foam mattresses that cause the problems. They're good for keeping the bugs at bay but not so good if you regularly get hot and sweaty (they tend to er, rot ).

I'll agree with Will. As bedding goes, best £1,000 I think I've spent (though stepping up from a single to a double has helped too).

We have on order a combination mattress with a pocketspring section at the bottom and a memory foam slice on top, it gives the best of both worlds and was the most comfortable one we tried apart from a £3000 superdooper memory foam one, it was only slightly less comfortable and only for little reasons like the memory foam one gives support right up to the edge, although this is a little disconcerting anyway because you don't realise you're about to roll out of bed. We paid about £1000 for a zip and link version because we can't get a Superking size up our stairs without having to bend it. Can't wait for it to be delievered

You can get edge-to-edge support versions of the combined spring/foam mattresses. In fact, I insisted on it when I got mine (2,000 pocket spring, 3in memory foam, from Dreams) because I tend to collapse the edges of mattresses. You're not supposed to sit on the edges but everyone does.

Just ordered a mattress from the bed shop, moulsham street

Felt a bit sorry for the bloke as he didn't open til 10 today as he was writing out the sale prices, then I waltzed in, and the one he recommended was £100 over my budget and after some deliberation he knocked it down to my budget

Only downside is delivery in 2 weeks, but at least it's a timed delivery and it's free

Got it today. Ok it was 3 weeks, but it came in during the week and today was the only time I was in. Not unwrapped it yet, but looking forward to a snooze

Parents passed me down their memory foam pillows when they got some new ones, they are so good at remembering their shape it's like it doesn't move... oh wait it doesn't. Slept on softer floors
