Gutted to hear it hasn't worked out this time but it certainly wouldn't be right to blame anyone. Sometimes pets just don't get along and the only way to find that out is to put them together and wait for the results (or fireworks ). You did everything you could be expected to do and you've done the right thing now.

Thank you all for the huge understanding!
I still feel rather terrible about it all and have to keep reminding myself that he's gone to a lovely home where children are no doubt spoiling him rotten! He went along with a blanket he got attached to while with us and his cuddly giraffe as well as various other bits and pieces, so I'm sure he's very happy

I just feel a bit meh at it not going as planned, hopefully once Harry recovers an older dog experienced with cats will work out fine. Poor thing's still rather temperamental and clingy, slightest noise is making him jump He's getting there though. I swear I own the most neurotic cat in the world

Such a shame Jen, but you absolutely did the right thing, and no-one can blame you for that. I agree with Kitten that the doggy should have been kitten tested first, but even then sometimes they just don't get on with a particular pet. I'm sure you'll be able to re-home a cat-tested older doggy soon

Yeah pity he wasn't cat tested I can see why they thought it'd be fine but would have saved a lot of problems if he had been!

Definitely in agreement, you guys did nothing wrong. It would have been wrong if you'd kept him and subjected Harry to more aggro!

Dont beat yourself up Jen, you did all you could and you couldnt possibly have known that was going to happen.
Charlies gone to an equally lovely home, just without a well established Harry cat.

Awww that's a shame .... you have done the right thing though - it would be futile and exhuasting to try and get Charlie to get on with Harry.

You'd be much better off with a cat tested doggy, it wouldn't have been fair on Harry to be scared in his own home.

You'll find the right dog soon enough

Oh no, poor Harry!! Agree with what others have said though - you did the right thing. Hoping you find the right dog for you (& Harry) whenever you decide to start looking again *hugs*

Thanks all
I've told Harry that the internet people were worried about him and gave him a hug, he was happy
