Honeymoon - Canada (need some ideas!)

Right,

Wench and I are going to Honeymoon in Canada, probably at the end of September this year. Plan is to fly into Vancouver and at some point pop over the border to Seattle so she can get her picture to taken on the street that has her new name

I wanted to go see a Calgary Flames game when I'm over but I think it's too early, don't think the season will have started (sure it's early October

). Anyone got ideas for other things we can do? ..other than the normal newly wed stuff

She lived in the states for 4 years but neither of us has been to Canada so we're wanting some good fun stuff to do on that side of the border

Yup - too early for the Flames, and the Canucks. As you say, the season starts in October.

Vancouver is a very 'British influenced' area, as you'll soon notice if you go downtown.

As for events/stuff to do, as above, downtown Vancouver (especially Gastown). If you (or her) are into things floral then Butchart Gardens is an absolute must-see. If you want scenery, try the Whistler Mountaineer (or other Rocky Mountaineer trains). Failing all that, just head up into the mountains.

I have a friend who lives there and spent a couple of years commuting between there and here to see his now wife.
I could put you in touch with him if that would help. Hes based over there now.

If you've got a day to spare then it is worth either taking a stroll or hiring bikes/rollerblades (preferable) and taking a turn round Stanley Park in Vancouver. The indoor food market on Granville Island is great if you want fresh produce, in fact the choice of food in Vancouver generally is brilliant.

Granville Street had some quite lively nightlife while I was there and some good eateries, mainly fast food that I went into but you won't be short on choice.

It depends how long you are there for but a trip up to Whistler would be a must for me, the snow season should be starting or near enough (it's got a glacier so year round skiing anyway) and some of the scenery on the way is spectacular. It is rather reminiscent of Scotland but magnified in terms of scale.

Cheers folks, we had thought about the train to Whistler but just trying to decide how we want to do things. I quite fancy it myself!

Ice Hotel in Quebec I think. I've been to the Ice Hotel in Sweden and it was fantastic so if you get hte opportunity to stay in one I'd highly recommend it.

'Opposite' side of Canada though, and the less said about Quebec the better IMO (personal experience).

One word - Banff.

Go stay at the CP Rail hotel up there. And try to visit Harrison Hot Springs.

And as suggested by SPW, Stanley Park is a must. And no visit to Vancouver is complete without a trip up the gondola to the top of Grouse Mountain. Go up to the Crow's Nest for lunch or dinner. It's expensive up there, but well worth it.

And if you're into shopping, you could always go out to Metrotown (no it's not like its name implies).

If you're into cosy little shops WAY out of the way, I would highly recommend going out to Point Roberts (you'll NEED a car, there's no transit system to cross the border) and go have lunch at The A Frame restaraunt. Traditional German cooking in a family owned art gallery. They make the BEST crepes there. And of course their Belgian waffles are to die for.

Depending on how long you're going to be there, I could suggest MANY more as I lived in the area for over 18 years...
