Hehe if he thinks that food is bad he obviously hasn't flown Copa airlines Panama - Colombia, that was erm interesting food

To get decent food on airlines you have to pay for it...in economy your main hope is to arrive in one piece as that's really all you're paying for....though when I flew BA last year they did have a choice of 4 wines for us cattle-class folk....I shall report back on this year as I can't quite afford their club class yet and Virgin don't fly to Nassau

You hear about RB getting back to people all of the time in the Metro, even if it is his aides writing the letters... I think its a good thing. Would love to work for Virgin.

My friend's brother-in-law works for Virgin and his 16mth yr old son passed away suddenly end of last year.

Richard B found out about it, wrote them a letter and organised for his sister to fly over from Florida for the funeral.

Wouldn't see James Caan doing that for me... never in a million years!

RB is FANTASTIC!

I actually adore him to pieces. Nicest man in the Universe.

A few years back he sent us thousands (upon thousands) of Virgin flight wash packs (they contained flannels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, hand cream, soap... you name it... everything) when we were trying to get as much aid for Rwanda. They were gorgeous - proper packs - something you'd buy from Boots to give to someone at Christmas. He also supplied make up, condoms, mirrors, pen, paper pads, loads of stuff. Not only that, he gave us airplanes to fly everything we got out and staff to help and whatever he could.

He was a complete legend. We did most of the packing and organising this side but the people who went out to distribute the things (we got the TA onboard and all), they sent back pictures and the faces of those who received the stuff. Well it was so amazing. We sent him the photos obviously

THEN!

A few years later my Nan... bless her... she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and didn't really have much time left. With her being a pensioner, he pretty much reduced flights down to next to nothing for her to get out to America and see her close friend she grew up with when she was younger. When she was out there, there were problems with the flights (some terrorist thingy - not 9/11) and he did everything he could to get her back when she needed to be.

Was amazing.

And when I said "he"... it was him. He made the calls, spoke to my Ma and Nan. Wasn't through his PA. Was funny, he called through one evening and my Ma answered the phone and I heard her say "Oh! Hello there Richard, how you doing?" I didn't know who it was and was all like "who do we know called Richard"... and yeh! So funny to find out afterwards.

He completely rocks.

That's awesome

Reading his latest book (Business Stripped Bare) and it's a great read. Also know a pilot with Virgin who has a great time, and my cousin has just got a job working for Virgin's marketing dept which must be pretty cool

Another thing I learnt is the bottom of the salt/pepper pots on Virgin flights have "pinched from Virgin Atlantic" on them because they noticed how many got nicked

I don't remember them from my flight

Then again, I was too busy enjoying the lovely flight attendant who couldn't stop bringing me drinks

I don't remember that sort of thing either.

Back to the OP this turned up on BBC News, and they corrected a few things - such as that the 'custard' wasn't. In the end they simply suggested the problem may have had a lot more to do with a culinary misunderstanding than any actual problem.

Maybe I read it differently to most, but I thought that was obvious. He seemed to be taking the mickey out of the food and calling it things it resembled rather than actually thinking it was those things.
