What do you call your parents?
Mum? Dad?
I call my parents by their first names, is that disrespectful? Been talking about it at work earlier, Ive called my mum Susan, and my dad Miguel (an affectionate twist on Michael) since I was about 16. And they actually prefer it! On the very rare occasions Ill call my mum "Mum", she will say "What did you just call me?" Same goes with my dad, if I call him anything other than Miguel, he doesnt realise I am talking to him Am I alone here? |

Always called them Mum and Dad.
I've got a friend who calls her parents by their names but it just sounds wrong to me so I don't think I ever would. They seem happy enough with it though.

It varies, dad used to be called either dad or Lenny, and mum is mum or Jeanie.

Always been mum and dad. Would seem really odd using their names.

Ma or Pa
When I was supremely ickle I liked to try and say words whilst blowing bubbles with my mouth. Saying "Ma" or "Pa" prolonged the ability to blow a bubble ("Mum"/"Dad" would mean I would have to pop it). And it's kind of stuck since then When referring to other peoples Ma's and Pa's I automatically say "Ma or Pa". "Mum"/"Dad" is probably used when I'm being serious, "Muuuuuuummmmmmmmmy"/"Daaaaaaaadddddddddy" when I want something Sometimes I might jokingly say their name in full if they've done something nawty but never would use their forenames in conversation |
