Right, I'm going to try to contribute to this now. As I've made the decision a few days late, I'm going to cheat a little to make up for the days I didn't take any pictures. This was actually taken on New Years Eve, but I'm going to use it as my first picture of the year
010109 I quite like this one as it was handheld at 1/4 second in the freezing cold. I'm surprised you can even see what it is, I felt I was shaking constantly (as some of my other pictures that night show). Others to follow later when I get them off the camera

I find I get this a lot. You'll get ten shots that are practically undecipherable in terms of what it is, and one that is completely crystal clear. Just a knack of catching it between shakes I guess!

That's one difference between a beginner and a pro I think. A beginner gets 1 good shot out of 10. The pro gets 1 bad shot
