(yes he's very lucky indeed like that! Although I do have a short attention span )
Film wise.... to me... a film doesn't have to be an all new wowzer amazing storyline I've never heard before, brilliant effects jobby to be top in my list of films. I guess it depends on what mood I'm in Obviously those with the above description are proper fandabiedozie and loved 24/7, but there are the odd few I appreciate for being able to relax, non thinkers, bit of a giggle/some funky effects, can be cheesey.. which just entertain me. Tisn't every day I'm in the mood to watch the LOTR triology! I need me some True Lies or Collateral Damage or Baseket Ball or silly teenager type highschool lovey dovey obvious non thinking goodness. Well that's how I operate. I can love the poop stuff as much as I love the AWESOME stuff |

Oh yeah, everyone has movies that they just happen to have a soft spot for - even though deep down you know they're not that good.
Demolition Man, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and White Men Can't Jump for me

Zodiac :
This started off fairly well, and the cast put in a good performance. There's sometimes that extra sense of intrigue when a movie starts of with "..based on true events..[sic]". Though it was just too long, and towards the end I got bored. Not really a recommended watch therefore. 4/10 The Number 23 : I got this simply because I wanted to watch a Jim Carrey film. I'm a huge fan of his and especially enjoy his more serious roles. This film started off well, and had moments which were visually fantastic. The score was a bit of dud however, and as soon as I worked out where the film was going the ending was too obvious. Carrey did well, but the script was a bit rubbish. It also handled the slightly religious/god aspect of it poorly. 4/10 Going to watch "And Now For Something Completely Different" now.

Unforgiven
Starring
9/10 One of those films I should have watched earlier, I'm generally not a fan of westerns as a genre but this is superb. Then again looking at the first four listed actors it would be slightly difficult to screw it up entirely.

Rescue Dawn
Christian Bale is a pilot shot down in Laos during the Vietnam war and imprisoned with the zany sidekick from Sahara and Daniel Faraday from Lost. Based loosely on a true story it's about how they try and escape the prison to escape through the jungle. I really enjoyed it, though Christian Bale didn't really come across as someone I should be rooting for. I felt fairly unsympathetic towards his character. Funnily enough, a quick bit of research shows that maybe the 'true story' isn't quite as black and white as it's portrayed, and his real-life character not as heroic as they made him. The Eugene character (guy from Lost) is shown to be slightly mad and snidey, and apparantly this is a bit of a character assassination. Steve Zahn plays his part extremely well - better than Bale I thought. If you're a Christian Bale fan you'll probably really like it regardless, but don't go out of your way to see it. Suspenseful at times, especially the escape attempt, but ultimately unfulfilling. 6/10 Rambo AKA John Rambo AKA Rambo LXVIIII Gloriously violent (final?) outing for John Rambo, rescuing some God-botherers from war-torn Burma. I expected more from the story, considering Stallone is actually pretty good at that sort of thing, as shown with the last Rocky movie. That said, it keeps a nice pace and the violence is just amazingly realistic. Bodies get torn apart, beheaded, holes blown through them, burst with sniper fire... it's done very well indeed and added an extra something to the movie, and not just gratuitousness. The British accent on the head mercenary is shocking... especially if the actor actually is British, and detracted from the immersion for me. But that's just nit-picking. I'd watch this again, and then go back and watch the main rescue attempt just to marvel in the gory insanity. Had they wrapped up the whole Rambo story in the same vein as Rocky, and brought it full circle, this could have been proper movie greatness. As such they only touched on the whole 'Rambo wasn't just built to kill, he was born a killer' theme, and kind of tacked a little ending on the end so we can make our own minds up. Maybe I was expecting too much, or maybe... just maybe, they could have done with a really good final push. 8/10 [REC] Spanish horror film with subtitles. Lady journalist and cameraman follow firefighters to a routine call while filming a mundane TV show, only for all hell to break loose in an old apartment building involving a strange infection, quarantine by the government, and a whole lot of shaky camera action. A little too high on the character stupidity scale, and despite some stellar performances a bit too hot-blooded for my liking (in terms of overly emotional shouty Spaniards). The story is good and the camera work actually does add to the suspense, and you share the frustration of the characters in not knowing what's going on. Some truly terrifying faces-in-the-camera-spotlight moments as the characters drop one by one from the zombie-esque infection. The final scene is pant-wettingly spooky but ends with a sudden barrage of explanation followed by none at all. Scary (especially that bloody attic bit), but I wanted another couple of minutes just for someone to really figure out what was going on. It's kind of explained, but in the last few moments when you're trying to read subtitles and watch out for ghoulies at the same time, and sort of washes over you. 7/10

This has been on my rental list for ages. Think I'll bump it up to high priority.
I like low budget, high concept films and Spanish cinema in general is a in bit of a purple patch right now.

I'll write more in a bit - if anybody hasn't seen it - try and watch Absurdistan. I've got tears running down my cheeks it's ****ing hilarious!!
8/10. That was one of the funniest films I've seen in aages. It's stars nobody of note (though the lead actress was hawt) and they barely spoke. It was narrated, but as the old saying goes a picture (or video) tells a thousand words. The story by far isn't a wholly new one, but the title kind of gives away what country it's set in and therefore in the back of my mind I had certain ideas of seriousness about it. Deffo recommend this.

Never Back Down
Starring
5/10 It's entertaining enough provided you take it just at face value but I found myself really rather disliking both the villian and the supposed hero of the piece. The best acting of the whole shebang unquestionably comes from Djimon Hounsou who should be beating his agent senseless for allowing him to appear in this film, I'm glad he did turn up though as it saved the film at least a point in the ranking scale.
