Finally, I'm heading back to Egypt. I have flights booked for today and just received an e-mail confirming my hotel and transport reservations so, after many false starts, it looks like I'm definitely away this time.

Due to the rig being in the shipyard for maintenance and starting a new well etc. I've been home for two months.
A few months ago I would have been perfectly happy with that but our pay structure was recently changed from salary plus day rate to full day rate which means that, now, if I'm not working, I'm not earning. I am now officially on the bones of my arse financially and looking forward to getting some wages in the bank.

It has also ****ed up my rota so I'll have to reassess events I've committed to once I know when I'm coming back and I can make a new rota with some degree of confidence. This well is supposed to be a big one so we should be reasonably steady for the next year to 18 months.

One positive point is that the latest lookahead suggests we won't be needed on the rig for at least a week and there isn't really much to do in the yard - all of our equipment should be pretty much ready to ship out to the rig when the time comes. Hopefully, this will mean I will have a bit of free time, so I've packed my camera and lenses (in my hand luggage) in the hope I can get some good shots around Alexandria. I'm hoping my new Sigma 55-200mm will come in handy.
