I'll have a look there later, thanks
Couldn't find it at all on the site but didn't get round to checking on the console.

Neither of those are the fault of Xbox LIVE though, the bad code is down to the developers. Dedicated servers have been used on Xbox Live before, although I would like to see MS make dedicated hosting a necessary for AAA games like Gears of War, Call of Duty, Halo, Forza etc...

True, but i do feel more stringent controls on the quality of things like the netcode should be employed by MS and Sony. They've provided the tools required to create perfectly good netcodes for games but some developers just seem to keep cocking it up. One such example is SFIV on the PS3, it's just a joke and no one is doing anything about it. Not only does it affect sales, it also gives the service a bad name, everyone in SRK forums slags off the PSN now despite it being an issue with that one title.

But then in my ideal world if a developer sent a crap game for approval the console owning company would send it back and tell them to try harder. Neither are ever going to happen.

It's rare that these problems ever seem to get sorted, I've noticed it more so on Xbox360 as I have a feeling it's a lot harder to go and patch things on PS3 which would explain why so many game patches get delayed on PS3 and are also so big (I've never downloaded a patch that's taken longer than 10 seconds on Xbox360 for example). I know the Killzone 2 patch was delayed as was the original Motorstorm patch (and Motorstorm was a total **** up online at release to the point I never went back).

I do entirely agree, there isn't a stringent enough QC on the online aspects of these games before they get to shop shelves. Some games I've simply refused to play because of it, and it's staggering that some AAA games have poor online, I hadn't heard of it with SFIV on either format, but you'd know, another one would be Gears of War 2 which was a total pita in MP when it was released.

No it's not directly a fault of live but it is a pay service and they should demand a level of service from people supplying the games or use some of the £40 a year to pay for dedicated servers as you say.

Far too many mega titles have been ruined by not having this or having bad code. Or like GRAW2 where you can't find anyone in the world with a big enough upload to support half the game types. Even when 6 to 8 of us used to play of ocuk a couple would get dropped nearly every round.

Gears And Cod would have kept me going forever online but the lag makes it unplayable for me. I'd say 6 out of 10 times your fine on COD but the lag and hit recognition is so bad on some rounds you can compete, it becomes a lottery.

They should also be pounded these games makers for the standard of lobby they are making for matchmaking. The gears one is a joke, worse than even the first one. The only ones in the 3 years that I've thought work well enough are COD4 and PGR3. PGR3 was a freaking launch title and it has a better working lobby system that just about everything since.

Having not played a ps3 online does it suffer the same COD lag issues?

I've not played CoD on PS3, but it's quite similar on some titles, Resistance for one did it well (lobby), but Motostorm for example is the worst I've used. Also, the lack of free microphones really limits the whole point of lobby interfaces.

I don't like a lack of originality, GoW2 is shocking as it takes forever to find a game, annoying as the first one was fine. Dead or Alive 4 did a great take on a lobby, Call of Duty's party system and PGR3 and PGR4 as you say, were great. Lobby's on Xbox 360, from experience, over all are much better. Halo 3 also did a good job.

I'm drawing a blank, but I've not really seen many issues with LIVE and in comparison to PSN, it's definitely worth the £30 you can get it for.

Pretty much all 3rd party multiplatform titles will be the same across both platforms as Sony only provide dedicated servers for 1st and 3rd party exclusives. Racing games like motorstorm also don't have dedicated servers provided as they won't really benefit. But then games like Killzone 2 appear to do it very cleverly, from what i can tell, users can create a server but instead of hosting it themselves it is hosted by a dedicated server.

It's either that or no one has yet noticed a host advantage, i've also never experienced bad pings.
