I've always been confused at the way people seem to think they have a god given right to jump in and out of phone contracts as they please.

What about data on PAYG? How does that work? To be honest I never even get close to using my allowance on Orange's £25 contract, my main concern is data.

You get 12 months of 'unlimited' data and WiFi when you buy one on PAYG. After 12 months it's £10/month if you want to keep it.

One minute I like the idea of an iPhone, the next I realise I like playing about with my phone too much and it's still too locked down unless I jailbreak it. Mind you, still in contract for 6 months so things will all change by then.

The locked down nature used to bug me but having used one that's not something that concerns me - it can do everything I want it to.

This interests me, the resale value on these is still pretty high after a year, if I buy one then I get all the data I want for a year and I just pay for my calls and texts then after a year I sell it and buy another. Effectively £35/ month + calls and I can get out anytime, that actually doesn't seem too bad. MB |

It's a good idea but a massive outlay to start with

Yeah, that's where I am now. Windows Mobile does everything I want it to do, but I'm ready to sacrifice a bit of flexibility for a tighter user experience - but it must still tick the (free) tether, EAS and satnav boxes.

3GS doesn't look that amazing to be honest. The processor on the 3G seems to handle everything ok, I'm not too fussed about taking video. I can record video on my XDA and haven't used it once. A compass? Seriously? Can't you just download an app for that anyway?
I think the real deal in all this is the reduced prices of the 3G. With the 3.0 software coming up soon, that will be a bargain.

I must say, nothing about the new hardware actually excites me (ok, the compass would be cool but probably hardly used ). So I'll not be running out to get my hands on a shinier, newer iPhone next Friday, I'll just be happy with my 3G and enjoy the new os update...
Except, O2 have ****ed that up as well! The extra charges for tethering are ridiculous, add to that the fact that the data you pay for only lasts for a month and I think it's back to vodafone for me to get mobile broadband for my netbook... Shame as it would've been nice to be able to use my iPhone to connect when out and about...
