After enjoying the ride in Matt's MINI, I now seem to have an obsession with them. Spotted three in the office carpark yesterday. Didn't pay close enough attention to work out which versions though (someone might have thought I was about to make off with one).

Well MB let me go unleashed on his lovely toy. And boy is it awesome! The steering has so much feel, the car feels so well planted. It does suffer a bit of torque steer (understandable with that much power) but it is SO much more competent than the other Mini Cooper I have driven (not the S). The sound is awesome - it is a completely different type of drive to mine, the power delivery is really rather intoxicating and the clutch and gear box are built for big strong men. I don't know how girly men cope with this version of the car!
It's effortless in every gear to get going, you feel you can short shift without sacrificing any acceleration. However it's intoxicating listening to that whine get louder and you just don't want it to stop. I was completely shocked to find out it was only a 1.6 - it felt like a 2.5l V6. It's so torquey from low down in the rev range. The other Cooper S I was in (standard one) was "ok" as a passenger anyway, the works version really is a cut above. Fantastic.
