I really would expect that retailers (or maybe MS themselves) are going to release this in drips.
If they can 'sell out' on opening night, it creates an atmosphere of massive demand, which will then drive sales of future copies they release before August 9th. It wouldn't be an almost month long promo with about 5000 copies of both combined to buy.

That said, that guy used Google Checkout, not a real payment method. Someone else says they think it's going to wait but need to wait to see their account in the morning to verify. I stuck it on my mums credit card as I do with all online purchases just for the added security it brings over debit.
The status on my order hasn't gone to 'Invoiced' though, like it usually would when payment is taken, so I suspect it won't take it yet.
