We already have Ubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook remix and Moblin. Why then, has someone decided we need yet another one and just combined two existing ones into Ubuntu Moblin?

It's needlessly confusing IMO and bar a few hardcore Linux geeks, if they've used the same GUI as Moblin, I doubt most people would even tell the difference.

Of all the things potentially off putting to Joe Public as far as Linux is concerned, I dont think the amount of choice is top of the list. It's true that the various distributions dont communicate their differences well to Joe Public, but that is part of a much larger Linux marketing shortfall. The collaboration and technology sharing is one of the open source worlds greatest assets, and far outweigh this downsides in this argument.

In this case, the distro is aimed squarely at developers/early adopters, it's not meant for your first Linux experience and that is clear. Presumably Dell want to evaluate it against the original UNR - they already have a support arrangement with Canonical, and I guess they would prefer them to support it rather than Intel. Because it's an open source project, this is possible, and at minimal cost to all concerned. Win++ tbh.

Agree with Feek, I'd have been tempted myself at that price. It's a steal Guv. If you do get it at that price and decide you don't want it, do let me know.

And I can vouch for the fact that 7 will run great on it. In fact, I've got 7 RC running on lesser hardware.

done... Estimated delivery is 15/10 but I'm already in phase 3 production so fingers crossed it's sooner!

Well, I'm sure someone will take the order off you hands if you get impatient and go elsewhere. Too good an offer to pass up there.

It's been pushed back by nearly a month? Are they making it utterly and completely from scratch?
