When I turn fog lights on I get a big orange light on my dash. Same for every car I have driven.

It isn't uncommon to not have a warning on the main instrument cluster for the front fogs (at least 2 previous cars of mine haven't) but AFAIK it's a legal requirement for the rear fog lights.

My car annoys me intensely - only way to get the rear foglight on is to turn the fronts on too

But yes anyone driving with fogs on in the daylight should be ermm.... <insert questionable act here>

My "lower" lights come on whenever the headlights are on, nothing I can do about it

Not sure what the legal requirements are over there, but over here an auto manufacturer HAS to ensure that fog/driving lights have a switch. Only two white lights and two amber lights are allowed to be visible from the front of the vehicle when within 1500 feet of another vehicle in motion. So the headlights and running lights are it. Only exception are clearance lights on large trucks.

So if your car has no way to turn the extra lights off, it certainly wouldn't be legal to be registered over here. :shrug:

Exactly. If you have the option to turn them on/off then they're front fogs. If not, then they're driving lights. They're called front fog lights for a reason - to use when driving in FOG. I think it's a good idea to join the button for the two so that rear/front come on at once. Maybe it'd stop people driving around with them on!

They really need to clamp down and fine more people for doing this.

It's been £30 for years. Perhaps upping it to £250 might make people think before they switched them on though.

I agree with DL. Fog lights are a real hazard when you drive a sports car. Really gets on my wick.

As suggested previously, if you can't see properly, slow down. Don't put other road users at risk just so you can see better.
