Xbox live questions
I'm going to get my son up and running Xboxlive for Christmas. I guess I'll need a wireless adaptor and a gold account for him. Can I buy an annual gold card without subscription? I find that odd that you buy a game with multi-player, then you have to pay for a subsciption to play it online?? Anyway, is there anything else I need?
Also, does the xbox come with parental control, and can i fix the IP address? I know this sounds noob'ish but really, I know nothing about the xbox other than to send them back when they go wrong. Thanks

Yes, you can buy a 12 month Gold subscription card. There's a few places that send the codes electronically, and they're often the cheapest. You don't need to add a credit card to the account (I haven't added one to mine). If you want to buy any stuff from the Arcade, you'll obviously need some points, but they're not needed to play what you've got.
Parental control? Yes, I believe it does. Fixed IP? Don't recall, but probably. Mine's fixed but I probably did that at my router, which is what I normally do. |

Aye, I'm sure someone will come along with some good links (I forget the name of the popular sites)
Yep, you can limit the time they spend on it, the rating of the games they play, and what they can and cant do on live, and probably some other stuff. Sign him up with a child account. Yep. [edit] Good parental control links: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/familysettings/ http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/fa...ildaccount.htm

jasper1675.com for live subs. picked up a 13 month gold sub from him back in January for not much. After a quick look, it seems he is out of stock though
I'll have a look tonight, but I think I still have the MS wireless adapter at home, saves you forking out £45 ish |

Turned these up from a quick trawl of BD. YMMV.
http://www.jasper1675.com/UKgoldcards.html (currently showing out of stock) http://www.live-codes.com (also currently out of stock) http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-...&ob=Price&fb=0 (try PlayTrade, but use caution) And, of course, eBay (use lots of caution) |

they have released an updated wireless adapter for the 360 which is N draft so you could use that, but they are around £45.
I personally use an ethernet wireless access point which I bought from scan which cost £27 and I can use it on any machine.

He's pretty good. I went away one weekend, hacked his way on my PC and played L4D. Told his nan it was ok. I think he got about 30 achievements in the time we were away. Cheeky fecker.. In the meantime, my 2½ year old quite likes fallout 3. He can move the mouse around, fires the gun and reloads..
