Default Good news for Pheebs

The Black Pearl was spotted off the coast of Oahu today. I heard news that Johnny Depp and co would be making an appearance over the early summer for the 4th film, but I didn't realise they would be starting doing the ship stuff just yet

Wasn't the 3rd one so crap that it killed off the franchise?

The third one was actually pretty good, unfortunately it was always going to be compared to the second, which was REALLY good. Compared to most films of that ilk no3 still still stands head and shoulders above the rest. And in answer to your question, clearly not, as they're filming no 4 and have signed up for no 5.

2 and 3 suffered from a similar thing to The Matrix films - one brilliant standalone film that pretty much ties everything up but left things open for sequels... followed by two slightly confusing and over-long follow-ups. While I liked the sequels much more after a second viewing, I'm not sure most kids would have entirely understood the plot, and the whole Davy Jones' Locker/schizophrenia section in the 3rd is just completely out there and not a little disturbing.

Hopefully whatever they have in mind for the 4th it'll be more like the first and have less of the pirate legislature that really dragged the third one down. I mean, it was almost as bad as the trade federation stuff from the Star Wars prequels. Even I didn't understand the politics in those.

Funnily enough, Shrek was similar, although 2 was the standout winner! Less politics and more cute cats.

The local news got in on the action, understandably.
