Way i see it is, if Sony do in fact release software emulated backward compatibility for everyone and you forked out for a 60GB you'd feel a bit cheated. If however you buy a slim PS2 and a slim PS3, you get to play all your games and if they release software BC you just copy the game saves to your PS3 and then sell the PS2.
