Well after a few weeks the novelty hasn't worn off. The iPad is a lot like a console for me. Consoles separated gaming from my desktop. The iPad has separated casual internetting from desktop. So my iMac is purely for work now. As a freelancer I like that. There used to be little separation in my life. I would work at the desk. Read websites at it and play games at it. Sure I had a laptop and I could sit on a couch with it but that's still a bit too close to the work environment. I could work on a couch. It feels like I'm actually taking a break from work, which is good.

The other thing is that I now prefer apps to websites. Reeder > Google Reader. eBay app > eBay site. Even the iPod app is nicer than iTunes.

Oh and the battery is phenomenal. Why lug around a laptop with a few hours use when you could get an iPad with an entire days use, or more? It's fantastic.

Glad to hear it's working out for you.

I went the laptop route, but I am at least heading in the right direction, having shed 1.5 kg compared to the previous one. The battery in this should last all day as well, which would certainly be nice.

I've lost a lot of CPU power, but I only went for (at the time) top spec because of my job, and I'm not doing that job anymore. I paid the price for that choice too - the laptop can't handle the heat load if I max the CPU for any length of time.

Work/home separation is good. After 5-10 years of mostly working at home with no separation at all I'm working from home less and less and it's doing me no harm at all.

Same, i use mine at least 3 hours a day, often 4 to 5. And i love it.

Net, apps, Emails, a game of Angry Birds, Check out the iBook Store, or grab a free book on Amazon Kindle, or read a magazine on Zinio, whilst listening to music on it

Well, I succumbed. Got myself one yesterday after having had a good play with my sister-in-law's one last week.

I still say I don't have a particular use for it that I can't do with existing tech I own but it's a lot of fun. I'm still getting to grips with it and finding out what it does and looking for useful apps. I've booked myself in for an iPad workshop at the apple store tomorrow night. I'm hopeful that will help me get the most from it.

Need to have a good rummage around the app store to find useful/fun stuff.

Dell Streak is just too small/cramped to be even a remote contender for the iPad crown. Cost isn't that much different either IIRC.

I was at Dell HQ in Bracknell today and they mentioned they're brining out a 7" tablet. Apparently the release date isn't set in stone yet but it's currently planned for August/September.

Unfortunately the enterprise account teams won't be able to get access to them so I can't get a freebie. Booo.
