So, I go bragging about my router not crashing, and what happens tonight. Yup, it crashes.

Still the old one though - new one is still in it's box. Going to let my ADSL Max activation go through first and see what happens.

My trusty Netgear (not stolen off Steve, honest) Router only crashes when I change the settings (well I say crashes, I mean resets...)

The nice motorola cable modem that I got off Telewest does crash every 3 months or so

Still, the track record is better than the Vigor 2500 (iirc) that Steve has running his connection, which also deals with my e-mail, webspace, website, etc...

He's having problems with it eh?

Mine doesn't reboot much. That's the first time I've noticed it go for ages. It might have gone once or twice before, but the worst was last year's already reported firmware hell.

Still got the 2800 to unpack and set up (which will be fun giving my locked-down security).

He has problems with most stuff despite thinking he knows what he's doing :s

His main system is a dual 3ghz Xeon rig with 3GB RAM, a 74Gb Raptor and an x1800....

My modest little 3000+ system pwns it

I see your point. I have an old (3.5 year old) Dual Xeon that held it's own until I got a Core Duo system (namely a Mac Mini). That little box of shiny white goodness pwns the Xeon into last year at all but the most demanding graphics stuff.

Well, my Vigor 2600, that I was singing the praises of only weeks ago, is now history.

When I got my Max upgrade, lots of (seemingly unrelated) stuff broke, I got regular connection drops, and I couldn't get download speeds above about 2Mbps despite syncing at 6.5-7Mbps. I blamed most of it on the ISP and gave them all sorts of ****.

How wrong was I. I did the (already planned) upgrade from 2600 to 2800 this afternoon. Now syncing 1Mbps faster, downloading 3Mbps faster, and now having any trouble with rsync or certain https-based services.

Odd. :undecided:
