Having experienced Major and Manic Depressive Disorders on a first hand basis (albeit not personally), I really dislike it when others make such trivialisations!
I've got a "diagnosis" ( ) of depression but I still try to say I'm feeling down or meh rather than "I'm depressed".
Similar thing (Kitten will agree with this one) people who say they get a bit down in winter so must have SAD.

Agree with the above. In the past I've referred to myself as 'depressed' but now actually being diagnosed with depression and having the symptoms I can see the difference! Same as when people try and relate to my dizziness when they have no idea!

My irrational annoyance is that flipping advert where they lob the car into the swimming pool. Apparently i can 'plug in my mp3'. Wonder if I can buy one and do something about trade descriptions, as I doubt very much i can plug in a file extension...

Just for friendly clarity - I have no problem with expressing their sadness or apathy - whether that is a result of genuine depressive disorders or not; it's just when someone hugely over-dramatises their usually self-depricating situation in order to gain sympathy or attention at the expense of a truly horrible condition.

It often saturates people's preconceptions so that when someone seriously says "I think I might be depressed" it is then falsely empathised with an anecdote about the supermarket not having the right biscuits or not getting a job they wanted etc.

Trivialisations can water down laypeople's understanding

I don't like grudges. My father kept grudges.

I always hated him for it.

I'll never forgive myself for holding grudges.

God I hate that My solution was to buy a cup wide enough to accommodate a whole digestive biscuit

My latest one is when we have absolutely nothing to do all day at work and then, half an hour before the end of the shift, some **** calls and wants something doing - bastards

We get that. If Security need an IT problem fixed you can guarantee it will be between 4 and 5pm, though most often at about 4.45. And it won't be something like a forgotten password or a simple word processing query, someone will have wiped the IP addresses off the CCTV system or corrupted the handheld car park ticketing dongle synchronisation software (yay!).

New Improved Recipe

Hold on a minute, I liked it how it was. Why did you change it? Now I don't like it.

Unhealthy snacks changing their tastiness to be more healthy!

Salt & Vinegar Disco (Crisps) - you are no longer deservant of your label; if I wanted a 'New healthier' snack then I would not be eating crisps!
