Can anyone help me with a quick DSR question? I'm thinking of ordering a router and putting my existing modem/router into modem only mode. However my existing router is a bit old and I'm not 100% sure it'll work.
If I receive the router, open it and test everything works, am I still able to return it within 7 days under the distance selling regs? Or is that simply if I change my mind and, once opened, I'm buggered? Information on the net seems conflicting on this one.

The "can I return used kit" question seems to be a grey area.

From what I've seen, the DSR doesn't actually stipulate that goods must be unopened or unused, merely that you should take reasonable care of them.

In reality, if you try to return something which has obviously been used, I reckon 90% of retailers will try to claim you're not entitled to a refund under the DSR, regardless of whether you legally are or not. Basically, if you can repackage it so no-one can tell it's been opened then you'll be fine, otherwise I'd expect some grief if you try to return it.

As long as you don't wreck it, it should be fine... My understanding is that the DSR are there because when you buy things online etc.. you don't get the chance to inspect the item before buying as you ordinarily would in a shop.

For example, you go to a shop to buy a TV and can see them on display, generally on to see picture quality. If you buy a TV online, you should be able to open it and use it to see what it's like.

That's increasingly becoming my option

I was looking for something with a BitTorrent client built in, but the only modem/router that seems to do it is the Belkin Play Max, and I don't really like my current Belkin.
However, getting a standalone router is seeming like more trouble than its worth and I might just get a simple, good, modem/router. Any recommendations?
