Video editing software
Anybody recommend a decent (easy to use) video editing program (*.mov capable)?
Short story - Father & his partner can't film to save his/her life. HD video clips needing to be cut short (to fit Flickr duration limit) or sections removed (filming stuff that spoils an otherwise ok clip), sound mute/removed (again as something has spoiled the rest of the clip). Rather not have to pay £££ as I'm not wanting to justify having to spend tonnes of my time patching up poor filming when I can just delete the video and they can try again. |

If you're only cutting, trimming and editing basic rushes then any pre-installed or freely available software (iMovie for mac / windows live movie maker for Windows) will do the job.
I believe the latter originally didn't support .mov formats but a codec/converter is available; this program also has the capability to save according to your usage i.e. HD/youtube/ipod etc. Failing your desire for these I used to use Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere - capable of anything but these aren't free*, cheap or as easy to use! *unless ye be a scurvy dogg yargggh

Hi Jingo.
I hadn't even thought of Movie Maker (downloading it now onto my Win 7 Pro 64bit setup). I'll take a look at Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere if they have a trial download. I've partially given up sailing the seven seas' so if there are no trials then I may just give them a miss. |

To be honest, FCP and Premiere do seem like overkill for simple editing - you might be suprised with Movie Maker as it pretty much covers all the basic bases
