Decent webcam security software?
Anybody use a webcam for security? My car is getting scratched (not on purpose) by the kids playing in the street so I was going to stick my webcam pointing out of the bedroom window to capture some footage (and to let the kids know I'm watching ).
Any recommended stuff out there to save me trawling through all the crap?

TBH, I wouldn't bother using a webcam the quality is pap.
Have a shufty on Ebay for PCI camera cards and mini-cctv cameras, you could get both from HK for less than 50 notes (probably less). Capture software comes with the cards.

Theres some pretty serious consiquences of pointing a webcam at anything apart from your property (i.e. a public highway the fact the car is your property doesn't count ). I'd look into it before you set anything up, also filming a minor without permission could probably land you in court or branded a peodophile in the enlightened times in which we live.

I agree that in a case like yours it's stupid and unneccessary but you are likely to get into more trouble than it's worth unless your car can be parked on a private piece of land (such as a drive... Don't know what the pigmo pad has in regards to this) and you can ensure that you only capturing footage of your own property.

Cheers for the heads up guys
Dym , we have 2 cars but only space for one on the driveway, the other is parked on the road directly outside the driveway. 2 of the kids are our Neices so maybe we could setup a " dummy " cam and let them THINK the car is being watched but never actually have a camera going or plugged in but they'd of course tell all their mates that they play with to be more careful .. where would we stand then ? |

With a dummy camera, as it's just the kids you're trying to convince it's real then if anyone else asks then you just tell them that. No harm, no foul (where the hell did I hear that recently? And, more importantly, why did I just say it!?).
