lol lets all pick on Gilly!

I still maintain Axl Rose is an awesome front man although Robbie does the business, even though I do think he's a glorified club singer. He's not a 'front' man as he's a one man show as it were, but he's about the best entertainer there is at the moment.

Shut up spam head or we'll all start picking on you again!

All I meant was some criteria... I've had this discussion with Gilly before and gave up because there was none it would just help - thats all I am saying.

I would suggest Ian Dury. Best gig I ever went to - the man's dedication to his art was inspirational.

Not a Liam Gallagher fan either.

Jack White from the Res Stripes?
Gwen Stephanie in No Doubt?
Kurt Cobain from Nivana? (Would've been in the same generation if he hadn't put a shotgun to his face)

Michael Stipe from REM?
Bono from U2 ?

Ok, the last two might have started way before Oasis.

All the more recently named people are from an earlier generation. Mick Jagger is the definitive frontman but he can't be called our (my?) generation.

I guess it depends on your definition of a frontman. As I said, I don't think Robbie applies.

For example James Dean Bradfield is very talented, is a great singer and musician but doesn't have that added extra that makes a good frontman. Thats why I was dubious about the Dave Grohl mention. Brilliant musician but to me he doesn't have that added something. Liam Gallagher (and though I'm a fan of Oasis I still thing he's a massive bellend) does, IMO.

I will never be convinced Liam Gallagher makes a half decent front man at all let alone the best one of our generation, he's OK enough but I never saw what all the fuss was about. Many other people named in this thread walk all over him without even making an effort. I can name ones easy enough from the type of music I like, though at the moment I am trying to think of others so thats it's not just skewed by my personal taste in music It's just taking me a while as they don't spring to mind right away... I'm not as 'with it' as I used to be
