Yeah, gotta say that is a bit geeky for me, I think it is unnecessary that I've got a switch so that I can connect my laptop and PC to the internet at the same time. I'm sure it is an impressive use of kit but it would be way overkill for me and therefore I must deem it overly geeky to preserve my own sanity.

Sounds fairly similar to me when I was at uni all that time ago However only 1 hall had internet access as it was still a new thing being plumbed into the halls of residence - and I was working for the computing services there so I was allowed a few perks i.e. servers Furthermore traffic wasn't monitored on weekends. Napster had just been invented to as had DC so we all went a bit mental.
Your set up is somewhat more overkill that we had though. And I like it, and it's not too geeky - it's cool! Certainly if it means you can by-pass the security of crappy uni policy Didn't realise you knew how to do that stuff - we could do with an extra pair of hands here at work!

Are you sure? Weren't you a year ahead of me? I remember the internet being pretty primitive back then. I can't imagine file sharing being in full swing or anything.
