Looking to get a replacement for the Mx1000, sent it back to the retailer to get a replacement...ended up with a refund. So I am going to buy another one, the MX1000 did fine but is the revolution any better?

Anyone have experience of both care to elabrate?

The thing is I had the Midnight black version, ebuyer only has the grey one in now. Dammit !!!!

What's worst, if i had waited another week, it would be over 1 year and then i could RMA to Logitech instead which would no doubt get a replacement instead of finding another place selling a Midnight Black or get a revolution.

Im interested to hear from anyone who has the Revolution as well. Ive got a MX1000, which I love, but the design of the revolution does look very nice. I especially like the look of the wide thumbrest.

I think i'll go get it from my local fishy world in a bit, miss my wireless mouse to much.

Will report back how it feels later

If my MX1000 wasn't broke i think i would've stuck with it but since it's no more....might as well.

These pics aren't mind coz I am too lazy to get the camera out tonight

Ok, got it and been playing with it for the better part of 40 mins now.

1st impression - How hard is it to get out of the damn box !!! It took me literally 15 mins to free it from the plastic that it's moulded into.

Anyway, it's quite cool that the charger docking station is wireless to the PC. All you need is to plug it in, and then put the USB stick thing into any USB ports, it gives you more freedom where to position the docking station. The feel of the mouse is good, although the mouse is shaped differently to the MX1000, when holding it it feels pretty much the same. The MX1000 was great egonomiclly so this is just more a visual variation of that. It does have a bigger thumb rest so that's the major change and improvement.

Buttons wise, now this is where the big change comes in. Out goes the middle button by the thumb. It's replaced by a "wheel", if you can call it that. It doesn't actually spin, it's on a kind of spring mechinism so you push it one direction, it will spin back to its original position. It's default as Document Flip, pushing it brings up a new window with the programs opened on the Taskbar. A bit pointless if you ask me, and if you want to change it to something else, the only other option is zoom. Can't figure out or see a way to make it to be a Forward and Back command, which is what i would use it for instead of the the buttons next to it.

The major physical change and improvement of this mouse and probably where the Revolution came in is the Wheel. This is the clever bit, the mouse can be "click" when scrolling like most traditional mouse, and if you press down on it like a middle button, it turns into a free wheel. It will scroll with no click, and with a little flick of a finger, it spins with almost no resistences. Press it down like a middle button again it'll go back to a click wheel. You think that's clever ? In the Logitech setpoint drivers program, you can set the wheel to auto change from a click wheel to a free wheel depending on how fast you are scrolling. It will detect and change on the fly, and the change is seamless. With it set up like that will free up the middle click to be the traditional Middle mouse click button, which is the way I like it. You can also have the wheel permenently set to click or free wheel as well.

There are also lots of assignment you can do for the buttons, from running running a program of key stroke assignments. All in all, it is an improvement over the MX1000, but It is almost double the price of the MX1000. Which I don't think its worth the upgrade if you already have other decent mouse.

Oh, the pads under the mouse is MUCH MUCH larger, now my mouse literally floats on my mouse mat where other mouse feels like its scraping it.

Cheers for the nice little review there. As you say, it seems a great mouse, but is the big cost justified... hmm, maybe not. I think i'll end up doing the same as you and only getting one of these once my mx1000 dies.

My G5 is on the way out so I ordered a Revolution this morning for the bargain price of £42.10.
